DeeP Western BoUndary Current Flux and Forcing MechanIsms iN ECCO (PUFFIN)
Lilli Ender

How much of the variability of deep western boundary current (DWBC) flux onto the Scotian Shelf (East Face) is explained by the variability of the DWBC flux upstream of the Tail of Grand Banks? What mechanisms drive the variability in DWBC volume transport? Do these vary between the North and East faces?

Conclusions

  • The transport of the DWBC in ECCO is rich in variability across time scales.
  • The transport of the DWBC between the north and east faces of the TGB control are correlated… but might not be causally linked.
  • Something mysterious is afoot! Interesting (wind-driven) patterns arose from the adjoint that are worth more investigation.
